What Is an Udder?
A cow's mammary gland, or udder, consists of four
separate glands called quarters.
Each quarter has one teat. Milk is removed from each gland via an
opening at the end of each teat.
FACT: The udder of a cow producing 40 lbs. of milk in a 12-hour
period can weigh up to 100 lbs. Therefore, a strong suspensory
structure is needed to support the udder.
