Skin and subcutaneous tissue
The skin is attached to the udder by fine subcutaneous tissue. (Subcutaneous means "under the skin.") Both the skin and the subcutaneous tissue serve in a minor capacity to suspend and stabilize the udder. The skin also protects the interior of the udder from injury and bacteria.
