Milk letdown can also be inhibited. Any event that startles the cow and causes fear or excitement results in the release of the hormone adrenalin. Adrenalin reduces the supply of blood to the udder tissues and prevents oxytocin from reaching the muscle cells of the alveoli.

FACT: Adrenalin that is released before milk letdown is stimulated will completely stop milk letdown. Adrenalin released after milk letdown has begun will slow milk letdown.
