The basic principle of any milking machine is to mimic the suckling
action of a calf. Milk is removed from the udder by applying a vacuum
to the end of the teat. The liner into which the teat is inserted
is under continuous vacuum to open the streak canal and allow milk
to flow. The liner is called an inflation.
