Weather Exposure
Teats may become chapped or cracked if exposed to cold, windy weather. Frozen teat tissue becomes damaged and is prone to infection by bacteria such as Staph aureus or viruses such as BHM.

FACTS: Cows with udder edema are more susceptible to frozen teats.
